Everest Sky Race, April 2005

Here's a gallery of photos I took before and during the Everest Sky Race in April 2005. The race was extremely challenging and involved running 10 long stages with only one rest day after stage 2. Each runner had to carry all their own kit for the 11 days of the race which started and finished at the North Face Hotel in Lukla. The race visited 5 high points all exceeding 5000 metres. These were the Renjo La, Gokyo Ri, Cho La, Kala Pattar and an un-named summit above Ama Dablam base camp. The Everest National Park is a fantastic place to visit, with awesome scenery and wonderful trails.

The race was organised by specialist trekking company Base Camp Trek.

Very sadly Nil Gurung, the lead sherpa from Everest Sky Race 2005, died from cerebral oedema at Makalu Camp IV on 20th May 2008, aged 37. More information
